Vision and Values

Our vision reflects a Christian understanding of God’s love, which is available for everyone.

Jesus explains: “You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hidden. No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house.

In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven." Matthew 5:14-16.

The Gospel from St Matthew celebrates that God gave each of us talents that should be shared and not hidden away, that we should use these talents to help others and to inspire them. We believe every child, adult and member of our wider school family has a gift or talent they can share and have celebrated in our school. This means that we strive to be truly inclusive, to discover, nurture and celebrate achievements at all levels and to provide opportunities to enable all to shine. We endeavour to be invitational and inclusive at all levels, including during worship.

Spiritual Development

At West Park we recognise the strength and potential for spiritual development we gain from our church status.  Our aim is to widen our Christian faith to include all pupils, staff and families of different faiths or no faith in their journey of spiritual development.

Our definition of Spirituality is: Spirituality is not something we can see, it is something we feel. It is a journey where we learn to ask questions, develop an understanding of ourselves and our deeper connection with others, the world and something bigger than ourselves.

This year we are working to develop this in our school with opportunities through the curriculum as well as in worship.

We provide opportunities to encourage and challenge all pupils to ‘shine’ through our inclusive curriculum, which is inspired by shared Christian beliefs, values and practices in our school family.

Our school values of teamwork, independence, Faith and Creativity are evident throughout our school day and curriculum. These four values were chosen by the whole school community. Each year our Worship Leaders also choose 3 values to focus on in our worship. This year our values are Kindness, Faith and Friendship. We teach these values through stories from the bible, linking these to other faiths, key events and through celebrating feast days.

At the end of each term, the children in each class chose an adult they feel has lived the values from our term and the adults choose one child from each class. These values ambassadors are awarded a special badge that they wear all year.

Our Aims are:

  • Ensure our school environment is safe, stimulating and stable;
  • Provide exciting and inspiring learning experiences that give every child the opportunity to become enthusiastic, resilient, adaptable learners who actively participate in all aspects of school life;
  • Enable pupils to develop lively and enquiring minds, the ability to question and argue rationally and the skill of becoming independent and creative learners;
  • Provide a sense of community and citizenship, establishing skills to make and maintain positive relationships with others, working in a team both in and beyond our school;
  • Assist in the acquisition of knowledge, skills and attitudes that will enable all children, irrespective of their ability, to achieve their full potential in subsequent phases of education and adult life;
  • Enable everyone to develop a sense of their own identity and have respect and understanding of their own and other cultures, beliefs and religions.
