SEND at West Park School
At West Park Church of England Primary School, we believe that every child deserves to flourish, and we're passionate about creating a warm, inclusive community where children with special educational needs and disabilities are truly valued and supported to reach their full potential.
A Truly Inclusive Community
We're proud to welcome children with a wide range of needs across all four areas:
• communication and interaction (including autism and speech and language difficulties),
• cognition and learning (including dyslexia, dyspraxia, and dyscalculia),
• social, emotional and mental health needs, and
• sensory and/or physical needs.
Our school is also home to two Special Support Centres, offering specialist provision for children with EHCPs for communication and interaction needs (16 places) and physical disabilities (6 places). Pupils who are enrolled in the SSCs are fully integrated into our school family and spend most of their school day in mainstream classes.
Caring, Expert Support
Your child will be supported by a dedicated team who genuinely care about their wellbeing and progress. Every class benefits from a Learning Support Assistant, and our experienced Inclusion Team—including our Inclusion Leader, SENCO, Teacher in Charge of our Special Support Centres, and Pastoral Manager—work together to ensure your child receives the right support at the right time. We also have Learning Mentors (one per year group in years 1-6), Speech and Language Assistants, and special support assistants who bring warmth, expertise, and understanding to their roles.
Partnership with Families
We know that you're the expert on your child, and we're committed to working in genuine partnership with you. We will meet with you to discuss your child's progress, celebrate their achievements, and plan next steps together. Your insights and involvement are invaluable to us, and we want you to feel confident that your child is safe, happy, and making progress.
A Thoughtful, Personalised Approach
We've developed whole-school approaches that benefit all our learners, including Dyslexia Friendly practices and Communication Friendly strategies. We use visual supports, social stories, and sensory adaptations thoughtfully tailored to each child's needs. Through our careful 'graduated approach' of assess, plan, do, and review, we ensure that the support we provide truly makes a difference to your child's learning and happiness.
